    I had the 120 for wood carving and after searching for the perfect lightweight bushcraft knife (I don't want to carry a prybar as I don't baton with knives) I realized this 106 should be perfect. I just got one and made a leather sheath for it. Do you still use the 106? Are you in the same opinion that it's all you need as far a knife in the woods?

    • @KobriakKnives
      @KobriakKnives 9 дней назад

      Hi, this is a tricky question :) All we need is a sharp object, e.g. sharp stone. You can do all you need with a 106, I agree. For different tasks and different people different knives give different ease of usage. And we take also other characteristics like the ease of carry, fun, looks, feeling, handle shape, steel etc. into the equation. I still use 106, but around the house I use pocket knife Civivi Elementum button lock and from the fixed blades I use the most my own handle with Morakniv Classic stainless steel blank blade. Then Morakniv Classic 2 and 106 is on the third place. Maybe you can show us your 106 with the sheath you made. I would like to have a look :)

      @@KobriakKnives Thank you for the answer. I wish I could send a picture in the response. I have a Bark River bushcrafter that's too thick and I bought a LT Wright GNS that's a good thickness and large enough for anything. I want to take the 106 out and try it as the only knife.

      @@KobriakKnives Thanks for replying! Well, being Japanese myself I am always partial to a good Katana or Tanto, though along with those my personal favourites would have to be the Shashka, as well as the European Longsword. While those are my favourites, I hold an interest in all swords from all different cultures, as they all have much interesting history and wielding styles to them that can be learned. that's a nice workout with a blade that thick! Also great fluidity in the flourishes! And to answer your question about experience: I've been doing HEMA (historical european martial arts) for 3 years on and off. I'm far from being an expert, I'd say I know the basics. Concerning bushcraft and survival, I've had training for that during my time in the german military and I did a couple survival overnighters during holidays because it's fun. Overall I know a bit, but far from everything about survival/bushcraft and I think I'm an advanced beginner to intermediate in that regard.

    • @KobriakKnives
      @KobriakKnives Месяц назад

      Danke schoen fuer dein Kommentar. I have heard about HEMA, but never did it. Which makes it you compared to me an expert :) Regarding bushcraft and survival I consider myself beginner with some experience. I was not in the millitary, but I did few overnighters in the forest either alone or with friends from Systema class. Compared to average person we are experienced guys, compared to people who live of bushcraft/survival classes we are beginners :)

    • @IIIAnchani
      @IIIAnchani Месяц назад

      @@KobriakKnives indeed it's all relative :) I think you'll really like HEMA if you tried it. It's a lot of fun :)

    • @KobriakKnives
      @KobriakKnives Месяц назад

      You are probably right. Probably in some bigger town around I could find some sparing partners for HEMA. When I was small, I knew two guys who were sword fighting. They had some scars, one was missing a part of the muscles on his arm and leg and one finger on foot was gone :) Plus they liked alcohol drinking and brawls like a real medieval warriors. But no one was carrying a sword on the street so I chose kickboxing as a more useful martial art at that time. Until a guy attacked me with a knife in a dark alley. Then I went to Systema. But nowdays streets are very safe compared to 25 years ago, so I can choose what is more fun and not what is more useful in self defence. I will give HEMA a thought. Thank you Shamorin Silentblade :)

    I guess you do the flourishes to build arm strength? It's a very nice way to go about it if you're going for HEMA specific workouts, while getting familiar with the blade, but I'd suggest not only going into flourishes, but also stopping blades from swings. That's what I'd add for additional specific muscle activation. It builds good habits and makes you more enduring during HEMA sparring.

    • @KobriakKnives
      @KobriakKnives Месяц назад

      Thank you for your suggestion. I do the eights (I guess you call it flourishes, because I do not know what flourishes are) as I was taught with a knife, stick or a batton during Systema classes. I was doing it not really for an arm strength, I did it just for fun to learn to move fluidly and to slash non-stop with the sabre. There should not be blocks in Systema, just redirecting of the oponent, that is why fluid non-blocking movement is importatnt in that martial art.

    The companion is in my opinion a better bush tool. Ive felled trees, skinned, field dressed, carved and done stuff like tick removal no problem. The kansbol feels tough and has great food slicing capabilities but when doing bushcraft i preffer the companion . Youl notice when your carving and notching the companion just glides into wood. The blade is easy to sharpen. I usually jusy hone it after use and it stays sharp.
